IIS Installation
Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2
The Internet Information Services 7 needs to be added as a role, and must be configured as follows:
1. Go to Start\All Programs\Administrative Tools\Server Manager. This window is also available by right-clicking on Computer and selecting Manage. Notice you require administrator's priviledge for IIS installation.
2. In the Server Manager window, locate the Roles options and select Add Roles. This will launch a wizard that will guide you to setting up your IIS by checking a few things and clicking Next for each window.
Notice that when you initially use this wizard to install IIS, it will show you a Before-You-Begin page. At this point, verification of the following should be done:
- The administrator account has a strong password.
- The network settings, such as IP addresses, are configured.
- The latest security updates from Windows Update are installed.
You may choose to skip this page for next times.
3. Check Web Server (IIS) so that it is selected for the installation and addition of roles required.
Right after clicking Next, the following window will show you general information about the IIS web server. No action is required in this window, click on Next when done viewing the presented information.
4. Select the role services required for Web Server (IIS) so that they are selected for the installation.
While marking some componentes, addition of roles required may be prompted. Ensure you allow the addition of the role services requirements.
5. A confirmation window will appear showing you a brief of the role services that will be installed. Once you proceed, installation will begin.
6. Finally, a window will show you the installed Web Server IIS and summary for its role services. Rebooting your server may be required in order to make use of IIS and its features.
Windows Vista and Windows 7
The Internet Information Services 7 must be configured as follows:
1. Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and, on the left menu, click Turn Windows features on or off.
2. Mark the check boxes in the same order as shown below. Some check boxes are marked automatically for each step, these must be left like that because they are part of the configuration.
3. Click OK to finish the configuration. This may require to restart the computer.

Windows 2000, 2003 and XP
In Windows 2000 Server IIS is installed by default as part of the operating system. In Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 is not. This guide explains how to add it using the Add/Remove Windows Components, for illustration purpose it is done in Windows XP.
There are two options to included additional Windows components like the IIS:
1a. Insert the Windows installation CD and, in the auto-run window, select the option Install Windows Components.
1b. The second choice is from the Control Panel select Add or Remove Programs. In the window that opens, click the Add/Remove Windows Components button on the left panel. The Windows CD is also needed for this option because it will be requested when the installation is executed.
2. With either choice, a new window is shown where the available additional Windows components can be selected. Check Internet Information Services (IIS).
3. Once the desired component is marked, in this case IIS, click the Next button to begin the installation.
